DCA Conference 2013

Grex: A Latin conversation table overseen by Neil Coffee. It is open to anyone with knowledge of basic Latin grammar wishing to improve their spoken Latin.

Conventiculum Buffaloniense: A Latin workshop for Latin teachers and other potential Latin speakers..

Arethusa Seminar Speaker Series: This initiative, supported by funds provided by Arethusa, brings two speakers to the Department each semester to participate in a session of one of the graduate seminars and to deliver a public lecture on a topic relating to that seminar.

Graduate Student Field Trip: This is a day-long field trip led by one or more members of the faculty to a museum with a major collection of Graeco-Roman antiquities located within driving distance of Buffalo (e.g., the Royal Ontario Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art). It generally takes place in late September or early October and is open to all graduate students.

Department Open House: This is half-day program held each spring in which high school Latin teachers and their students from across the Western New York region are hosted in the Department for a series of presentations and discussion sessions by faculty and students regarding various aspects of Classics and the Department’s programs and activities.

AIA Lectures: The several lectures sponsored each year by the Western New York Society of the Archaeological Institute of America are generally held either in the Department or in other venues on the UB campus.

The Department regularly hosts various other events, including occasional lectures by scholars from outside UB, shop talks and brown bag talks by faculty and graduate students, trial presentations of AIA and APA talks by graduate students, etc.
